What happens on the day of the inspection

November 3, 20264 min read

You do not bring the car to me. I come to the dealer lot or the private seller and inspect it where it sits. You are welcome to attend. You do not have to.

Before I leave home

I need the year, make, and model, the address, a time, and the seller's name and number when there is a car to look at. I confirm with the seller so the car is unlocked and someone can allow a road test. A $50 e-transfer holds the appointment. It is refundable if you cancel at least 6 hours ahead.

On site

Most inspections take about 50 to 60 minutes. That includes photos, the checklist, an OBD scan, and a road test when the seller allows it. I work for you. I am not tied to the dealer or to a repair shop.

The report

If you are there, you can read the report before I drive away. If you are at work or across town, I email it within 15 minutes of finishing. Use it to proceed, negotiate, or walk away.

The fee

A pre-purchase inspection starts at $180 plus GST. Ask for a quote. The fee depends on the vehicle and the location, and payment is by e-transfer. I also do a buying consultation, help finding a car, and price negotiation after an inspection.

The line-by-line sheet is on the checklist. A sample of the report you receive is here.

Book the inspection

Send the vehicle, where it sits, and a time. I confirm by text or phone.
